20th September 2009
This Society has come into being as a result of the inspiration and determination of mainly two people, who spent sometime in advance getting it off the ground.
The inaugural meeting of the Society took place at Jesus College, Oxford on 20th September 2009 and was a well organised one. It began with a welcome and a brief history of Jesus College and its strong connection with Wales, by the Bursar; and this was followed by an excellent lunch in the Dining Hall.
Our guest speaker was David Watkins, a former Welsh rugby international in both Union and League, and British Lion. He spoke of his humble beginnings, how rugby had taken him all over the world and how he had met so many interesting people, many of whom had become friends. He was keen to emphasise that he owed a lot to the game of rugby.
The warmth and friendly atmosphere throughout the afternoon contributed to a very successful first meeting of this new Society.
